Olympic Swimming Coach

Born in Mexico, Chava Sobrino competed at the 1980 Moscow Olympics as a diver before a career-ending injury redirected his passion to coaching. Over more than three decades on the pool deck — including stints at eight Olympic Games as a coach — he has guided athletes to four Olympic medals, most notably Matthew Mitcham's historic gold at Beijing 2008, Australia's first male diving Olympic gold in decades. As head of the NSW Institute of Sport's diving program, Sobrino has become one of the most respected dive coaches in the world.
